Thanks to the foresight, commitment and spirit of the Young Professionals Organization of Greater Peoria, our city took home the 2013 All-America City Award this week after a successful presentation in Denver, Colorado. This prestigious award, sponsored by the National Civic League, is given annually to 10 communities across the United States for outstanding civic accomplishment.

Peoria also won the All-America Stories Video contest, a separate online competition, for its video having more than 22,000 views and over 1,900 likes. In addition, the video reached 63 different countries and had over 58,000 minutes viewed. Simantel shot the video over a two-week period that showcased well-known city landmarks and included participation from more than 500 people—it was truly a community-wide effort.

And that’s not it. Ethan Mosher, a member of the Peoria Park District’s ELITE drumline, won the All-America City Youth Award. The drumline was part of the delegation that traveled to Denver with members of the YPGP.

It’s no secret that we celebrate living, working and raising our families in Peoria, but it’s occasions like this that make us especially proud to be Peorians.
