When Illinois’ state-mandated rate freeze expired in 2007, Ameren Illinois Utilities (AIU) found itself facing an overwhelming state of dissatisfaction about its ability to control rate increases. Through conducting research in various areas in their service territory, Simantel found that customers didn’t understand AIU was a delivery-only utility and that they simply passed on the cost of energy without markup. AIU asked us to clear up this misinformation and position them as a resource to help customers find ways to use less and spend less.

Simantel developed and launched ActOnEnergy as a way to build greater customer trust by providing ongoing information about energy efficiency and lowering utility bills. In the first year alone, the campaign:

  • Recycled 3,848 refrigerators
  • Saved 54,948,000 kWh
  • Received Chartwell Best Practices Award
  • Received Association of Energy Services Professionals Energy Award 2009
